Cat Tales #35 The Fighter

From Facebook archives

31 December 2015 at 10:47
First thing off to the vets with Felix who came in last night with a bloody back foot and bits of loose fur.  The claw has gone.  We have antibiotics twice a day for 5 days and painkilling syrup twice a day until it runs out.
"You can try cleaning his paw with salty water, or epsom salts, if he'll let you" says the vet, not volunteering to do so herself after seeing the size of his claws.
There seems to be a new cat in the territory.
He had huge scratches across his nose last week, which just missed his eyes. I think we shall be keeping him in a bit more for a while.
Miss Doozer  I heard a right barney going on last night - thought I heard Felix's voice in there.
Hope the little fella's OK, he does pick em... 😟
Mrs Heath  Aaah poor thing, hope he's better soon xxxxx
Mrs Elplates  Our cat got into a fight (we assume) and got his tongue sliced.  V nasty at the time but all fine now.  Hope Felix mends quickly.
Mrs Lasagne  Oh awful ,I hope he mends quickly ,happy new year lovely Ben xxx 💗 😘
Birdfoodlady  Might be an obvious question but has he been neutered?  We had an old tom (ex farm cat, we got him aged at least 10 yrs) who used to be never out of the wars, until the vet said that his heart was strong and why didn't we try neutering him? So we decided to risk it, and he changed from being a fighter to a loveable, laid back pussy cat.
Bentonbag  The rescue centre we got him from insisted he was neutered and chipped.
He came in about half ten, Miss Doozer, leaving little bloody foot prints on the kitchen floor (and Fester's notepad on the office desk), had a little supper, came upstairs, curled up on my dressing gown on the bed and didn't move until I brought the cat basket upstairs to take him to the vet.  He's slept most of today.  Bounced around the kitchen at tea time until Fester let him out.  He's back in for the night now - whether he likes it or not - has eaten and had a bit of a wash.  Next antibiotic and sleepy juice at 10pm.
Henlady  Sending love to Felix.  Good luck bathing the paws.  My semiferal let me bathe her when she had an abscess and withdrew touching privileges when better- so you never know- he might let you.
Bentonbag  He's brilliant as far as tablets and medicine is concerned: grab him by the scruff, hold him up, shove 'em in (wrapped in pate or not) or squeeze in with a syringe, and down it goes.  No noise no fuss.  Matilda struggles, swears at you continuously using the foulest language, spits it out at least twice and drools.

Wishing us all a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year.

Twixtmas Shopping

It has become traditional for Thunderthighs and me to visit the charity shops on Shields Road, Byker, between Christmas and New Year to stock up on next year’s cards at half price.

We also pick up anything else which might be useful.

Yesterday we had a good haul.

In Barnardo’s: 30 cards, mostly nativity but some not; recycled Xmas wrapping paper; a 40th birthday gift for his cousin.  I won some Christmas placemats and Thunderthighs won a metal teapot, jug and sugar bowl set, in their tombola.  He says I can have it; it will be ideal for Covens and other trips away.

Next to Veterans at Ease; no cards but a 60th birthday gift for my cousin, and he spotted the ideal wedding anniversary gift from me for Fester.  It was a ‘limited edition’ Christmas plate dated 1979, which was when we first met…https://bentonbag.blogspot.com/2021/10/hard-but-fair.html

There were no Christmas cards in the Salvation Army either, but we did get a couple of greetings cards.

In Marie Curie; 20 cards, nativity and Marie Curie Nurse Angel.  Thunderthighs won a lovely faux snakeskin handbag with ‘gold’ clasp and chain on the tombola, which I suspect will find its way into another one in the near future.

Cold Caller Baiting #28 Not A Foreign Language

Yma o hyd!

Phone just rang.
Long satellite delay.
Eventually I lost patience, broke my own rule of not speaking first, and said
"Prynawn da".
"Hello maam this is Trevor from Microsoft" a male oriental sounding voice.
"Hello Trevor, beth wyt ti moen gyda fi?"
"What?  Can't you speaking in English to me?"
"Achos fod rhwy i dim yn ishe siarad Saesneg i ti."
"Why are you speaking in a foreign language to me?"
"D'yw Cymraeg ddim yn foreign language i fi bach, mae 'e yr iaith fy ngwald cartref."
"You know what you can do?"
"Beth?"
"You can f*ck off"
"Well you rang me sunshine, and I didn't ask you to, so you can f*ck off too, and then you can f*ck off some more."
He already had.
Rough translation available on request unless Tyle Bach, Tylefach Mawr or Mabmeistre want to do the honours in comments.
Mrs Quilt  No need, got the drift!
Tyle Bach  Brilliant xxx
Tylefach Mawr  Da iawn!
Birdfoodlady  I do love you Ben! Hugely well done!
The Late  Well done Ben
Cousin Daisy  Great command of Welsh and English vocabulary. Love it xx

Rough translation to save the monoglot English from google translate, and my imperfect spelling.

“Good afternoon.”
“Hello Trevor, what do you want with me?”
“Because I don’t want to speak English to you.”
“Welsh is not a foreign language to me pet, it is the language of my homeland.”
“What?”

Still here.  Always here.  Here forever.
