Solo Shopping

The iron seems to have died.

Stop laughing Mrs Leftfoot.
Mrs Leftfoot  How did you know?  I read your first post and burst out laughing!
Ms Marx  I have 2 irons if you'd like one?  The older one works but not as well as the newer one.
Bentonbag Thanks, but I'll take a trip down to Sainsbury's and use up some Nectar points xxx

So off to Sainsbury's for a new iron (car park was heaving) and the sale is on.

Came home with:-

a steam iron

a jar of Dove moisturising creme

a box of Tenalightliners

a packet of plastic pegs

a box of White Fig & Patchouli scented tealights

and a washing line (just in case).

Who says your shopping basket tells you all about a person?

Oh the joy of wandering around a shop alone;

neither wondering what/where Ferretfingers is up to,

nor having Thunderthighs looming, sighing heavily, as I examine something,

nor Fester staring bovinely at bits of meat.

Woolerwoman  Bliss! (What do white figs smell like?)
Bentonbag  I'll let you know when I light one - very hippy-shoppy I should imagine -
I'm trying to relive the misspent youth I didn't have.

Post-Christmas Shopping

I'm not sure when it started but 'doing Shields Road charity shops' has become something Thunderthighs and I do together in the betwixt time between Christmas and New Year. Yesterday, after using up the Sainsbury's extra Nectar points vouchers before they ran out, we took ourselves down to Byker and bought next years Christmas cards in Marie Curie and Barnardo's, as well as quite a few birthday cards and two facemasks.

I've bought all next year's Christmas cards half price or less in Shields Rd Barnardo's, Scope and PDSA. All variations on the Nativity too which have been getting increasingly rare in the past few years
Mrs Jeremy  I never manage to get bargains like that, perhaps the fact that I stay away from the sales has something to do with it....

Busy day - just taken Ferretfingers to the barbers; he was looking even more Thelwell pony than usual this morning.
Hendersons greengrocers had parsnip, mushroom, clementines and limes at 50p a bag.  Fester's thinking of making clementine and lime marmalade.  I'm thinking of g'n'ts.
Mrs Jeremy I'm with you there Ben, but maybe something else instead of the g and t.
Bentonbag vodka?
Mrs Jeremy Yes, or even Bacardi!
Bentonbag  In the 1950s my mother used to drink dry sherry and lime; I've never tried it.  Once in the RAF Sergeants Mess in Germany she ordered one and the barman gave her three glasses of sherry and a lime cordial.
Mrs Jeremy Not liking the sound of sherry and lime...

Byker Trip

Regular readers will remember that Mrs Leftfoot has made it her mission that, following doctor’s orders, we 'do something entirely frivolous once a month'.

From Facebook Archives -

Please note these are 2016 prices and opening hours.

Been to Byker with the boys to get Frontline flea'n'tic for the cats and get next year's Xmas cards at half price or less.
Thunderthighs suggested we have lunch "at that Greek place you're always on about".
That is the Greek Grill near the top of Shields Rd which does British as well as Greek stuff.
Fester and I go there sometimes.Ferretfingers had sausage, beans and chips.
Although I was tempted by mince'n'dumplings I had lamb kofte wrap.
Thunderthighs had chicken gyros.
The lass was happy to turn the music off for Ferretfingers.
Less than £12 the lot.
Now off to make goose stew.
Mrs Leftfoot  It's great that you can all eat together in peace, no fuss.
Maybe you could "beat the list" and WRITE next year's cards in anticipation.......
Well it's not like you can do the ironing in advance.
I'll stop now.
Bentonbag  Have you any thoughts about January?
Mrs Leftfoot  Yes.  It starts on Sunday.
Boom! Boom!

Thunderthighs has just ironed all his t-shirts and pyjamas.
Mrs Leftfoot  He can come round to do ours.
Mrs Lasagne  Brilliant xxxx
Tylebach  Send him here!!! Xxx
Erica  Should hire him out!
Mrs Walker  You've got him well trained!
Bentonbag  I asked Thunderthighs if he might like to iron his t-shirts and pyjamas that were on the mountain.
"But I haven't run out of t-shirts yet."
I explained that you don't have to run out of things before ironing fresh ones, so he did the lot. Which means the next load of washing will be mostly the t-shirts I haven't had room to hang up because of the ones waiting to be ironed.
(I have a system you know, it may not be a good one, but it is a system)
Mrs Quilt  Mr Quilt was hugely sympathetic to Thunderthighs' reply.  Pure logic - he did have a little chuckle though.
Later
Bentonbag  When I emptied the clothes horse in the loft ready for the next load of washing (now in washer) I tossed his boxers on his bed and said
"Pop those on your radiator and they'll soon be dry enough to put away."
Just passed the living room door on way from washing dishes, goose pan etc and he's in there with the ironing board up ironing them!  Without being prompted!!
Mrs Walker  Impressive!
