Hiatus Days Fifteen and Sixteen - Journal and Texts

Wednesday 9 April 2025 09.25 - RVI
Big ward round this morning so everything clean, breakfasted and spick and span before 08.30.
Even Ferretfingers co-operated by filling two bottles and then going to the loo so the housekeeper could change his bed nice and tidy while he was out of it.
Even my bed was tidy by the time the Senior Sister came to have a chat.
I’m annoyed that I forgot to ask her about Ferretfingers’ earwax.
He has an ear syringing appointment on the 15th but some bits of dark wax came out the other day so the oiling may have sorted it.
He has had a whole body wash; sadly not a bed bath by a lovely young woman like yesterday.
The support bandage came off his other leg yesterday.
I’ve given it and both feet a good wash; sawing the cloth between his toes for a good clean.
They need more hydromol but I don’t want to get the blanket greasy.
“Would you like a shave this morning or tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow, AT HOME!”

Wednesday 9 April 2025 21.50 - RVI

A pair of technicians have arrived to repair/replace the macerator in the sluice room.
One of them has a voice resonant and husky and so like Phil’s I’ve had to leave the door open to hear as much of it as possible.
It’s not upsetting; just comforting.
There’s also a couple of police officers visiting the ward in what looks like an official capacity.

14.22 Text to many – This may take more than one text.  Specialist Plastics Nurse Practitioner has been & is happy with wound.  Wet vac dressing has removed enough clot that dry vac can do its job properly.  So he could go home but we live in a different trust area so can’t take the RVI machine with us.  The North Tyneside District Nurses have ordered one.  There might be a might be a miracle and it arrive tomorrow but Monday’s more likely.  Meanwhile the wet-vac is back on which will do more good than harm.  When hometime comes his wound will be covered & bandaged & NTyneside DNurse will come an apply their dry-vac.  End of part 1.
14.37 Text to many – Part 2.  The dry-vac dressing machine is about the size of an old fashioned portable cassette player and will spend most of its time plugged into the mains.  It has a battery life of approx 4 hours.  We will be able to attend medical appointments & Ferretfingers will be able to go to the gym with Emil.  He will also be able to go on his respite weekend.  Emil was with us this morning so has seen, heard and knows as much as me.  The end.

14.24 ldne office – Ok thanks, well does sound more positive and hometime sounds much closer.  Emil will still be there in the morning.

14.32 Ernextdoor – Wow Ben what a trying time for you all but he’s in the best place and hands and fingers crossed NTyneside sort quickly xx if you need anything just let me know xx

15.04 Middlesister – Well explained.  Am waiting for my RSVP jab !:-)

15.13 Mrs Leftfoot – That is great but how ludicrous about the dry vac machine.  Think how much it costs to keep someone in hospital.

I was wrong about the size of the home dry vac-machine – but more about that when we get there…
