First I
went over to Cousin Daisy’s, as her daughter Fifi D is up for a visit, and to drop
off their birthday cards and some apples. We had coffee, a catch up, cuddles and a laugh,
and I came away with my birthday card and a box of chocolates
Then, as
I was so close to the coast, I took myself to the Briardene car park and had a
Mr Whippy icecream sitting on the beach.
Home
and this popped up in Facebook memories.
Another
funereal one, but life’s like that sometimes...
I've
just come back from Aunt Vera's funeral.
She was Uncle Laurie's widow; they met and married some years after he lost
his first wife Auntie Ina to cancer.
Vera
was a very proper lady, always immaculate and on first meeting seemed cool and
aloof.
But she was actually very kind
and generous. Almost every time she saw
me she would press a note in my hand with a "get something for the
boys", and sometimes a cheque would arrive just before the summer holidays
"for treats". Being properly brought up I always rang to thank her and we
usually sent her a postcard when on our travels.
Sadly she was too poorly to come to Ferretingers' 21st
teaparty, but when I rang to invite her she said "Ring in a couple of
weeks and we'll have a coffee."
Ah
well...
I often asked if there was anything we could do for
her, but she had been a good friend and neighbour and her friends and
neighbours looked after her in return.
It was nice to meet her niece and 'that side of the family' who we'd
never seen because she was quite a private person too.
She was loved and she will be missed - and not just for the treat money.
