"I'm going to put the lights on back"
Now
was that an autistic correctness refusal to split an infinitive (if 'lights on'
is an infinitive)?
Or
just poor communication skills?
But
poor communication is better than none.

Stir-up Sunday or
whenever we make the Xmas puddings.
Then
the fruit for the cake will go into any remaining liquid, topped up if
necessary with the remaining Raki-blackberry concoction; and if that isn't
enough sherry, port or gin.
Once the
cake is mixed the excess booze will be decanted back into the Slivovica bottle
(pre 1986 Phil's parents brought it back from Yugoslavia).
To be honest I can't actually remember what
booze has gone into that mixture. Mostly
any spirits we've been given we didn't like the taste of. I know cheap gin,
vodka and possibly blended whisky has been used as well as home-made (by Nikos)
raki.
Bentonbag Something for you to think
about Mrs Bursar.
I had a
lovely afternoon yesterday with friends from Newcastle's Easton Hall and
Catholic Chaplaincy, one of whom I hadn't clapped eyes on since 1978.
This
afternoon I'm off to Lindisfarne for a weekend with newer friends from about forty years ago.
I spent this weekend doing much the same thing, but with the Coven and four of their spouses.
It is 50 years, almost to the
day, since Dad put me on the 06.45 Heart of Wales line train to start my journey up to the
University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Llandeilo, Shrewsbury, Birmingham NewStreet, Newcastle Central Station and then the old electric line (now theMetro) to Jesmond for Easton Hall of residence (for ladies) on Eskdale Terrace. It took nine hours altogether.
Unlike today's undergraduates there were no
helicopter parents bringing a carload of stuff.
A large suitcase/trunk went Passenger LuggageIn Advance (remember that?) and I carried a small suitcase, handbag and large
shopping bag, doubtless with a supply of food from Mum for the journey.
