Bentonbag Come up to my house and I'll show you.

McChurch I have several different makes including one with a Pusser`s arrow on it from the huss`if (sewing kit to you civvies) that was issued with my kit in 1963.

Along with a silk, a dirk, a lan`yard, and my bosuns call, it`s all I have left. Not even a cap tally! Of course there are some items of "re-allocated" stores, but I`m not telling you about them.

In 1958 Dad left the RAF, after 24 years, and took Mum and us kids back to the home he grew up in.

McChurch I`m very impressed with the fondness you keep for your childhood world. I can`t look back at North London with much more than dismay.

It must be a hell of a lot worse now.

"You had an idyllic childhood. You do know that don't you?"

A home with parents, grandparents and siblings; good neighbours who were more than just 'people next door'.

The place my father and grandparents grew up so we were well known (and thought of?). My great-grandparents moved there to run Talley Road railway station in the 1890s (or earlier).

The time when most of the inhabitants had been there for generations so knew each others families (and foibles).

Big garden, safe for a toddler, and beyond that green countryside with only one busy road, safe for explorings.

And a tiny, village school where I made friends for life, and Master was relatively free from interference and bureaucracy.

I was incredibly lucky.

Goose Stew Again

Thirteen and a half portions of goose stew ready to go into the freezer.

After I'd got them fitted in himself decided it was time to jam this summer's blackcurrants. So I had to go back into Rubrik's freezer to get them out and fit everything back in again.

All the other chinese-take-away boxes sorted out with matching/fitting lids.

I've retained 15 of the small and 5 of the large and the rest are going to LDNE; sometimes the healthy eating session people take food home with them.

Dulcima You must have a big pot!

Bentonbag I use my mother's old jam pan.

McChurch How big was this goose? The size of a Transit van?

McChurch Well, has to be said, you are very well organised. Jolly good showing in that beat combo video too.

Bentonbag That's made my day.! Laughing until coughing. Got to go and blow my nose now.

Mrs Leftfoot It drives me round the twist when we end up with one tub that has a different lid. I try to get rid of that one but OTHER PEOPLE seem to put it back again.
