Kit-forming Underpants

From Facebook Archives

25 January 2024 at 16.33
Ferretfingers is sitting on his bed, naked from his waist to his ankles kit-forming his underpants with a seam-ripper.
He's just called out "It's broken Mum."
I haven't the heart to go and find out what.
In other news, we've been to the opticians, he behaved impeccably and has perfect eyesight.
Miss Doozer  As long as nothing is bleeding...
Bentonbag  He wasn't wearing them at the time.
When I eventually went in (to call him for tea)
I discovered he'd broken the seam-ripper and was continuing the kit-forming job by hand (or finger to be more accurate).
Miss Doozer  RIP seam ripper
Bentonbag  We have another two, one well-hidden and the other not so much, but that's going to change.
Mrs Lasagne  Oh I suppose the seam ripper has now gone to seam ripper heaven !
Now Ferretfingers.  You need those underpants on your bottom !
Bentonbag  I've already spent his cold weather payment on half a dozen new pairs from Atlas-for-men.

Video Tapes

Once Fester got his feet firmly under my table, after our second son was born, Bazoukiboy moved into his flat.  This was a relief as far as house insurance was concerned.  Also he looks after it a lot better than Fester ever did.

Despite his care there was a leak from a damaged chimney stack into the flat’s attic, where Fester had a load of stuff stored.
We took the opportunity to also clear out the office he still had there, and bring over any things he thought might be useful.

Amongst the treasures unearthed from Fester's loft at the flat were some Open University vhs tapes.
Ferretfingers insisted we keep them, has managed to get the video bits on our old tellies to work and has spent the evening watching Geology and Chemistry programmes.
He loves educational videos (and dvds) so if anyone here has any they want rid of we'll give them a good home.
He's not fussy, anything schools/educational from 5 upwards, any subject.
If nothing else it may deter him from sending lists of requests for birthday and Christmas presents to his godfather.
Kentishlady  We have 'Amphibian', one of the Eyewitness series. Any good?
Woolerwoman  Oh God bless him. I must admit, there is something mesmeric about those old OU lectures. I miss them. If you couldn't understand the lecture at least the clothes were funny.

Plant Redundant

From Facebook Archives

23 January 2013 at 16:48

On our last trip to Sheffield we brought back the plant that lived on the front room window sill which (as well as wrapping up the last mug) seemed to mark the end of the house in Hackenthorpe as a home.
I put it with the other semi-succulents and ferns on our back windowsill (inside) and it seems to be enjoying the company, in fact it looks as though it's developing little flower buds.
The bits that fell off in transit have been pushed into some compost so tiny cuttings may be available for anyone who wants one.

23 January 2015 at 16:52

Thunderthighs not only making his own tea, but also Ferretfingers' #Mummyisredundant
Mrs KA  Does he do take-aways yet? Good lad.xx
Bentonbag  Not unless you want slightly singed sausages, white bread and sauce.

Mrs KA  I bet they enjoy it tho and well done Thunderthighs. x

The first thing I would do on all those many weekend trips to sort out the house in Sheffield, would be to water the plant (and possibly say hello to it).  It  is still alive in the same spot on the back windowsill, and sometimes flowers.

This Week So Far

It’s been a strange week at Chateau Midden.

Our usual weekdays go:-

Monday:  Ferretfingers to Day Centre on minibus; Thunderthighs to the gym then with me for the big shop.
Tuesday:  Ferretfingers and me to Ouseburn then to Sainsbury’s for his tv magazines; Thunderthighs to work experience in the afternoon;  Fester to the Mining Institute.
Wednesday:  I take Ferretfingers to the Day Centre; Thunderthighs goes to work experience in the morning; Fester to the Mining Institute; I fetch Ferretfingers home and pick up the good bread.
Thursday: morning Ferretfingers out with Emil; Thunderthighs to the gym; Fester to the Mining Institute.

Last weekend we were woken by Thunderthighs screaming at his laptop, he later demanded I take him to Monkseaton Computers asap.

“I can’t, I’m taking the car in for its MOT on Monday.
You’ve got legs at the end of your feet and can work the metro.  You can do it yourself.”
Which he did.

Tuesday was the only morning everyone could attend an important meeting at LDNEand I’d arranged to leave Ferretfingers at Ouseburn and join him in the afternoon.

But the car failed its MOT.

Up at Kwikfit on Monday afternoon.
“I won’t need it on Thursday, so I can bring it back then, or at the weekend.”
“No, it's got to stay here.”
“But the old MOT doesn’t run out until February.”
“It’s invalid now, and we can’t let you take it with those brakes, it’s not safe.  I can start work on it tomorrow and it should be ready by Thursday.”

I phoned a nearby committee member to give me a lift to and from our monthly WI members meeting.

First thing Tuesday I phoned a local taxi firm and got through to the computer.

It was fine for arranging a taxi from here to Ouseburn but couldn’t grasp the concept of a forward journey on to Wallsend and eventually said (with a sigh?)
“I’ll put you through to an operator who can help you.”
I’d have much preferred to speak to a human operator from the get go.
She was very helpful.
So was the driver, once he realised I wanted to go the LDNorthEast not Aldi.

The meeting proceeded and once it was finished I said I’d get a taxi back to Ouseburn.

“What!” says a fellow trustee “You can go on the bus; 301 or 22.  You’ll be there in twenty minutes and it’ll only cost you £2.50.”
“It’ll cost me nowt ‘cos I’ve got me bus-pass, but I don’t know where the stop is.”
“I’ll walk you to the stop.”

Back at Ouseburn I discovered Ferretfingers in the craft shed totally engrossed in crystal art.  He seemed to have missed me not at all.

At home time I asked if he wanted to get a taxi or walk up the hill to the bus.
“Bus”
So up the hill we trudged and got the bus home.

Thunderthighs came bursting in from his work experience screaming.

“Have you seen what they’re doing to the car?  It’s up in the air and they’ve taken the wheels off!”

On Tuesday morning, when only he was in, Thunderthighs had answered a phonecall from Monkseaton Computers about repairing his laptop.  By teatime he’d been to get the money out of his building society account.  So Fester didn’t need to put his hand in his pocket.

After tea Thunderthighs went out and got the tv magazines from the Esso Tesco shop.

I facebook messaged Earth & Fire at the Rising Sun and asked the baker to deliver the bread this week.

I’d planned that on Wednesday, after dropping Ferretfingers off, I’d go to the recycling event the council were having in a local community centre car park.  It’s a great idea.  Instead of people having to make an appointment and drive to the main centre, they set up in a car park and people can bring their unwanted household goods to them.

It happens about twice a year.  I had a printer, scanner, massage chair and various bits of broken little electricals all ready to go.  I put out an appeal on Facebook and, God bless her, Ms Marx offered to pick them up and take them along.

Not having to get up to take Ferretfingers out on Wednesday morning felt like a day off.  Things got done, like washing, washing up and wiping down.

I gave Ferretfingers a soapy spray and microweave duster and got him to clean the greasy black hand marks off the bannister rail.

Monkseaton Computers rang to say the hinge on the laptop lid also needed repairing so it would be a few days for the parts to come in.  He assured me that Thunderthighs had been charming both in person and on the phone.

At teatime KwikFit rang to tell me the car was ready, I said I’d pick it up first thing this morning.

Last night (Wednesday evening) I went to the People’s Theatre with Pearl and friends to see an excellent production of Agatha Christie’s The Mirror Cracked.  They staged it very well.  With a familiar Agatha Christie whodunit the journey is more important than the destination.

When I got home and looked on Facebook I discovered my mobile had phoned

Mrs Treasurer, seemingly when it was turned off in the theatre.

To bed and then at 00.20 the text message alert went off.

Kwikfit’s computer telling me the car was ready.

Downloading Rant Ironing Fashion

From Facebook Archives

21 January 2012 at 19:54

OK technophiles - here's one for you
I've learnt how to download BBC podcasts onto the mp3 (Kermode & Mayo, DannyBaker, Fighting Talk)
Now I'm wondering if it's possible to download single tracks from cd's and how complicated that might be.  Bearing in mind it recently took me a whole morning to work out how to put numbers in Ferretfingers's mobile's contacts, and the computer is ancient ... although I'm currently doing this on Ferretfingers's laptop.
Strawangel  Upload your CD onto your computer...into media player....to the right of that, there should be a tracklist option. (I'm going from a very rusty memory) make a tracklist of the singular tracks that you want.....don't worry about navigating from cd to cd (already in media player) then transfer to MP3 via USB.
Strawangel You have to drag the trags into the tracklist

Just had my sister on the 'phone - nothing like a good rant to keep you cheerful on a cold afternoon.

21 January 2019 at 23:07

Today I ironed Ferretfingers's sweat and t-shirts and put them near him to bring upstairs.
Then I ironed my and his father's stuff and put them on top with
"When you take your stuff up put these on big bed."
We've just come up to bed.
Ferretfingers very carefully peeled our ironing from the top of his and handed it to me before carefully carrying his stuff up to his room.

I've completed the week with a lie in, all the boys are out and I have a quiet and peaceful house to myself for the rest of the morning.
I may even have a bath.
Woolerwoman  Real achievements in a week that is notably the gloomiest of the year.
I'm fighting my inclination to hibernate and felt a real brightening of life and mood while feeding garden birds yesterday lunchtime in some warm, but short-lived, sunshine.
Bentonbag  I've no confidence that next week will be as positive or sunny ...
Dicky Brown  I had a bath two weeks ago and I didn't even need one!
Miss Fiddle  I always use smaller plates for a similar reason -my smaller portions look good on them!
FifiD  Love those dungarees on you.
Cousin Daisy  Height of fashion.
Bentonbag  I've learnt if you wait long enough it comes back around again.
