However yesterday evening I received a text from the proprietor of NE14TV with a link to Schak’s Instagram account and thence a music video on Youtube.

A friend wants to meet up and have a chat with someone "sensible who won't BS."

I report this to himself who says 

"Well you've never been accused of bullshitting, swearing a bit much, but never bullshitting." 

Mr Monkshood  This is the man who was once told, "Most people swear occasionally but sometimes Fester, you talk." 

Bentonbag  True. 

Mr Monkshood  But a heart of pure gold.  I was so grateful for his combination of pragmatism and understanding at one point in my life.  A man with no selfishness in his body.

Lockdown Tier Four

Most of the time I keep myself cheerful and the negativity under control… 

but every now reality bursts the dam. 

By the way, I didn’t object to the lockdowns: they were necessary, may be again, and I was and will be happy to comply with them.   

It was the chopping and changing and not knowing that got to me; and the effect they had on my boys.

What's on my mind Mr Facebook?

I'll tell you what's on my mind.

Now we're in Tier 4 the gym and swimming pool are shut so neither of my boys will be getting their weekly exercise.

This is not so bad for Thunderthighs, he can adapt.

Ferretfingers on the other hand ...

We don't know whether the Day Centre or Ouseburn Farm will be operating.   

So I'm wondering whether the Day Centre's minibus will turn up tomorrow or whether or when they will phone.  

I've replied to LDNE's email asking me if we want to carry on with Emile's sessions but without the pool or farm (Friday) what's he to do with him if the weather is awful.   

It's unfair to mess someone about with "Well yes if the weather is good but no if it's not" - it's his work for goodness sake and his pay (in part) depends on hours put in.   

Also we can't ask him to 'mind' Ferretfingers in our house.  It's one thing to pop in, masked, to collect and deposit him - entirely another to spend any length of time here (and probably illegal).

Ferretfingers is talking a lot more, mostly asking questions, the same ones over and over again.  This is not a silver lining as it's entirely due to him be anxious, having the routine of his life entirely disrupted, and worry.  He is also 'stimming' a lot: flapping and humming, not words just inchoate noises.   

But it's a lot better than those times when the whole thing gets too much for him and he puts on the Pobl Y Cwm, Emmerdale or World In Action theme music which always make him cry.

It's very very hard for a mother to listen to.

Mrs Leftfoot  Me too. Ring tomorrow if you need to let off steam. X

Erica  I’ve got staff some days which helps as they can come in the house and do craft etc but go out... to where and for what?  Everything is closed and their social networks are no more. I understand the cafes in Wallsend /tynemouth and Northumberland parks are still open for take outs.

Lives on hold again!

Woolerwoman  So sorry I can't do anything to help.  Maybe councils need to develop a strategy for times like this - we should ask them what they intend to do?!

LMJ  It’s not illegal for carers to come in to your home to provide care/supervision to vulnerable adult to allow families a break x

Mrs Lasagne  Oh Ben it’s just the hardest thing to see when understanding this cruel virus and understanding affect it has on families in so many ways , it’s very hard to explain to a child with learning difficulties without them spiralling out of control with anxiety , it’s frightening too.  You are an amazing mother totally devoted to the boys.  Who would have thought any of this was possible the world is in such a mess xxxx

This morning Ferretfingers and I:

removed all his TV-game-show-board-games from the top to the G-plan;

unplugged and removed the mini-music-centre and speakers they had overwhelmed;

dragged the extension lead to a place where (when the dvds etc get shifted) it can be unplugged and put to better use elsewhere;

dusted the top of the Gplan (yes Mrs Leftfoot it is still Xmas);

put them all back tidy.

I told him that he has enough board-games now.

Then his father came in and said "Yes, you should start collecting something smaller."

AAARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!

Unfortunately for my sanity Ferretfingers took his father’s comment to heart and has gone on to fill all my bookshelves with dictionaries, maps and road atlases and has DVDs stacked to the ceiling and ‘tidied’ into large carrier bags which are colonising the back of the living room floor.

Omen?

Last night I saw the New Year in with Thunderthighs.

Wished Ferretfingers and Fester a Happy New Year on my way up to the loft to watch the fireworks out of the velux windows and went to bed.

Sometime around three Fester woke me with “There’s been a power cut.”

Not something I really needed to know, or could do anything about.

At 04:35 the mobile went off.

A text from Powergrid to tell me the electricity was off and they’d endeavour to get it back by 06:00.

Again not something I needed to know, nor to be woken up for.

Then at 05:05 Powergrid texted again: thanking us for our patience “whilst we fixed the problem that caused your power cut” and suggesting we try a light switch to check that our power is back.

Nothing about trying my patience by waking me up, twice, in the early hours.

I appreciate that Northern Powergrid feel the need to communicate problems with their customers, and that it was probably done by an automated system that doesn’t understand the need for undisturbed sleep – but for goodness sake!

I now have to go and put the radio alarm and boiler clocks to the correct times.

If this is an omen of the year ahead – Gawdelpus.

Well here we are peeping around the door of another year and wondering whether to stride out, or slam it shut and go back to bed.

Thank you for all your kind words, and deeds, over the past year.

Let's gird our loins, tighten our belts, grab a big stick, screw our courage to the sticking place and stride, chins up and shoulders back, into whatever's waiting for us.
