13.15 Miss Doozer: Parking will be a bastard by the way as the congregations are on.  I’m happy to shout you a taxi both ways.

13.16 Bentonbag: I think he’s planning on the metro

13.17 Miss Doozer: Can he even see? 

13.17 Miss Doozer: I think a taxi might be safer, given his current love affair with tarmac.*

13.19 Bentonbag: He’s got one good eye and new shoes.

13.20 Miss Doozer: Be better with a white cane and a dog.

13.20 Bentonbag: I did mention a taxi but he harrumphed.

14.01 Bentonbag:  Can we take you up on the offer to sit with Ferretfingers?  If I give Fester a lift in we'll need to leave at 07.45.  Thunderthighs leaves early for Hextol.  Ferretfingers doesn't get up until about 8.30 on a Tuesday so I should be back in time to take him to Ouseburn.

14.51 Miss Doozer:  Yes, shall I come over for 7.30?  What time do you go to Ouseburn?

Also any breakfast requirements/tea/coffee and toast. I mean he seems like a fairly self-reliant lad.

15.14 Bentonbag:  That would be great.  I aim to leave for Ouseburn about 10.  Ferretfingers gets himself up and I give him a glass of fruit juice and a banana for breakfast.  Thunderthighs leaves about 7.30.

Up at 7 to leave 7.30ish to drive to RVI (thanks Miss Doozer for Ferretfingers minding). 

Big queue at junction of Claremont Rd and Hunters Rd so slip into back streets to get to Richardson Rd via Morpeth St.  

Foiled as that is gridlocked too.   

We're early enough for Fester to get out and walk, so he does.  

I do a Uey and get home so quickly Ferretfingers is only just stirring and Miss Doozer enquires whether I have a Tardis or reckless disregard for speed cameras.

Anyhoo.

The consultant says that there is no sign of a retinal tear but he has had a bleed which should clear over time.  He has an appointment in a fortnight's time; at 9.30 and Ouseburn isn't on so we can shove Ferretfingers in the car and then take him somewhere else (or that's the plan).

They did an ECG, blood pressure etc on Sunday (protocol in A&E for oldies) and all is well.

He's now doing stir fry veg with noodles for tea.

Ms Mininglibrarian  Is he banned from squinting at tiny print in old mining records for a bit or good to go?

Bentonbag  He'd have been down yesterday morning if it hadn't been for the drop dilated pupils and being forced to get up at 7.

The Eye Of A Storm (or vice-versa)

Some regular readers may be concerned that there’s been a hiatus in posts.

Things have got a bit hectic at Chateau Midden as I shall be on a stall at a craft fair this Thursday, helping at a Family Fun Day on Friday and, of course, am involved in getting things ready for both (tombola tickets are my speciality).

But the main cause for the break can be found on Facebook, where as usual friends rallied round …

Just back from dropping Fester off at A&E.

He came back from going out with Ferretfingers and said 

"I'm having problems with my left eye, it had floaters then zig zag lines, then it was like a black net curtain, now it's all black."

He intended visiting the opticians tomorrow.

It sounded like when, my oldest best friend, Henffrind had a detached retina (when her mum died) so I phoned her and described it.

She said "Go to A&E now. I went to the opticians and they sent me straight to A&E. When did it start?"

"Friday" he said.

Horror expressed by her and me.

"Tell him to go to A&E NOW.  It's his eyesight for goodness sake."

Of course Thunderthighs is out so we had to take Ferretfingers and drop himself off at the door.

I'll have to handle Thunderthighs' hysteria when he gets home; probably wet because he won't have taken a waterproof and it's raining.

I'd just started the washer when I phoned Henffrind, so that's about ready to hang up.

I've got Ferretfingers washing the dishes which will keep him occupied for a bit.

I'm now going to pack an overnight bag just in case...

Because I've got a feeling that at his age, and state of health, they might want to keep him in if they want/can treat him immediately.

Never boring - I'll give it that.

Mrs Lasagne  Oh it exactly what happened to Dr Lasagne and we ended up with surgery then had to be horizontal for six weeks until the gas bubble in his eye went which was put in when he had the surgery done. Yes detached retina xxxxxx I hope it gets sorted xxxxx

Float  Hope they get it sorted out for him.  Pass on our best wishes please.

Drummerman  All black sounds like the retina, not just the posterior vitreous humour, which I’ve had twice.  Still sortable, but much more of an embuggeration.  Best wishes for a speedy resolution.

Bentonbag  Latest update. He's home.  There's been a bleed.  They've ultrasounded it.   

It has to 'settle down' before they can do anything.  They'll send him an appointment to be seen again soon.  Thunderthighs and I made pork and smash/bread for their tea.  Himself is now rattling about in the kitchen doing things with lamb cutlets and new potatoes.

TwinnyP  Wow, bit of a scare, pleased himself is back at home and can get right treatment to restore eyesight.

Henlady  Sending all good wishes for a speedy recovery.  My hubby had laser treatment for his bleed as an outpatient successfully. Xxxxx

Sheffield Cousin  I know the feeling with my right eye.  21 injections so far.  Going for assessment on Friday.  Hope he’s okay.

TV Cable Annoyance

The tv in the living room appears to have died 

(it came via my brother from Dad's room in the care home when he could no longer appreciate it).   

Thank goodness we have a spare in Mrs Quilt's old kitchen one. 

The next half hour will find me swearing and getting sweaty and dusty getting all the cables out of the old one and into the new.

Ms Exlibris  What a shame we're not nearer we seem to have a garage full of TV's!

Bentonbag  The one in the boys’ room is a Murphy portable bought by my Dad so that he could watch the 1974 World Cup in peace in the front room - black&white, going strong, I'll be really annoyed when they switch off the analogue signal.

Ms Exlibris  Our analogue signal went months ago, that's why we've got loads of tv's in the garage!

Bentonbag  Silly isn't it. What a waste of resources!   

Why has no-one come up with a SCART to co-axial plug/thingy to go from the digibox to the telly?  And if someone already has - where can I get 3.

AND - Why are all the damn leads black? Power, scart, arial, everything.   

It's a nightmare unravelling them.  Couldn't the powers that be get together and decide on black, grey, white or something.  That's something the EU could usefully do.
