Ten Little Christmas Baubles

From Facebook Archives
Over the past little while I've been truffling out a lot of old short posts, I hope they've illustrated the run up to Christmas over the years; how things change and how they remain the same...

I’ve found it surprisingly difficult to buy condensed milk in Benton - finally got it in St Aidan's newsagents after none in Tesco or Iceland
FifiD  Cheesecake? Thanks for card and letter. X
Bentonbag  No Christmas cake
FifiD  Of course!
Tylebach  Dooo share.... condensed milk with Christmas cake??
Bentonbag  It's cake recipe my sister gave us: condensed milk, dried fruit, eggs and some flour. Very rich and heavy, doesn't so much rise as shrug. I'll email you the recipe if you like.
Tylebach Oh yes please...thanks Ben xx

Tinsel up the front room ceiling - after tea the back room - then the cards up on strings - then all done (please God!)

A bottle of Method 'dish washing soap' - washing up liquid to you and me, but still better than a poke in the eye
Bess Cavalier Well that's your three things.

Ferretfingers is off with his outreach worker (whether he likes it or not) and I am off to town for coffee and frivolity with a fancy man.

Today, a funeral, the sweep, ‘tinsel-up-the-ceiling’ and another attempt to scale the ironing mountain.

22 December 2016

Discovered at the funeral yesterday that I’ve sent a Christmas card to a nonagenarian lady who passed away in October.

Chimney is swept.

Ironing mountain remains unconquered.

A happy Solstice and a good Yule to us all.
We brought the tree in yesterday and will decorate it this afternoon.
I had a lovely surprise visit from a card bearing old friend yesterday, so we shared a pot of tea and a gossip.
Today to Byker sorting office to pay for something someone forgot to put enough stamps on.

21 December 2022

Tree still not got and cake still not made.
Fester has taken to his bed with the family cough - it's a lingerer.
Happy Winter Solstice.

Spent so much time doing domestic goddessy/displacement activity things yesterday that the tree is still in the bucket out the back.
Ms Exlibris  I love displacement activity, I am planning quite a lot of that today

Me "I like the Highland pipes, not necessarily indoors."
Him "I don't."
Me "They're a bit of a Marmite musical instrument."
Him "They're not a musical instrument; they're a weapon of war."
