It Never Rains But It Pours

As mother used to say.

Blogging late again.

Firstly Fester is poorly (haven't done a test yet) and is not one to suffer in silence so, as well as the usual wood sawing snoring, I've had him mumbling curses since about 4am.

Also someone texted me at some God-awful hour.
And the cat was trying to sit on my head. I'm feeling less than chirpy.

Ferretfingers's appointment with the dental nurse was at 9.10 so we had to be out of the house by 5 to, which meant me getting up at 7.30 (it was quite a relief really) to have time to shower and wash my hair, and get a cup of tea and water bottle for Fester, before leaving the house.

Ferretfingers was brilliant getting his teeth scraped.

It was drizzling as we came out of the surgery.
By the time we got to the Corner House it was raining.
He didn't have his waterproof so we detoured home to fetch it, and my raincoat.
It was pelting down when we got to the farm.
Of course we then had to go out and find where the lads were working; nice and dry in the poultry shed. I got soaked getting there, and going up to look at Ben-lamb.

Then I had a couple of things to drop off in Forest Hall and, despite having my brolly, I got so wet I had to change when I got in.

It's not raining now.

Mrs Leftfoot  Oh no, was that me? I'm sorry if I woke you up...

Bentonbag  No, it was Mr Mountain, but I think it might have been O2 buggering about.
Mrs Leftfoot  whew. Hope Dr Fester feels better soon. You are still a star. Xx

Dungarees Discussion

From Facebook Archives…

28 August 2022 at 14:22

I wanted to update my NE14TV profile pictures so got Ferretfingers to take some photos.
Bess Cavalier  The dungarees really suit you - or you suit them!
Bentonbag  Read tomorrow's blog...
Dr E  The article suits the person not the person suiting the article.  My mother used to go spare when she heard “you suit it”
Mrs Lasagne  You look fabulous that image really suits you Ben xxx
Mrs ER  Ready for work.x
Mrs Leftfoot  Well done Ferretfingers.  They are lovely photos.
FifiD  Love those dungarees!!!
Mrs Walker  Fab dungarees! Love that look.

Bess Cavalier  I've never worn dungarees - the faff of getting almost undressed to go to the loo puts me off.
Dr E   Too true
Bentonbag  To be fair you have to watch out for whatever's in your bib pocket, but they're so much easier than a boiler or cat suit.  It's getting the straps back up again that's the bother.
Miss Doozer  Love dungarees (and boiler-suits - though I agree with the logistical faff required for loo breaks); I've got a red corduroy pinafore at the moment which I am in love with.
The other picture looks very much like Villefranche de Conflent or somewhere similar in SW France... happy days.
Bentonbag  Italy, possibly Florence, Spring 1994.
Mrs Bun  I live in my dungarees......LOVE them....xxx

A Cheeky One

The first photo of Phil and me, on his 39th birthday 31st October 1985

There was a time when I would do all those ‘quizzes’ that came up on Facebook.

As mentioned in a previous blog, in the summer of 1985 my then flatmate the Squireen was dancing with The Newcastle Cloggies at Folkmoot and dragged me along to the ceilidh.

When she went off to change I looked around the room to see if there was anybody I knew and could sit by.  I spotted  one of the Kingsmen, Craigsy, and sat next to him.
Sitting across the way was a large bearded man …

LolSided Quizzes - What is your British slang nickname? “Brenda The Cheeky Bugger”

For once a quiz that got it right.

My first conversation with Phil was at a Folkmoot concert where there was a band from Brittany with a bloke playing the shawm :-

Phil "Look at him he's doing circular breathing"
(being asthmatic Phil was always impressed and fascinated by circular breathing)
"Who?"
"Him over there playing the shawm."
"Which one?”
Pointing “Him”
“The one that looks like Renee off Allo Allo?"
Slight pause whilst Phil turns and regards me, then
"Well you're a cheeky one aren't you?"

Becoming A Pensioner

From Facebook Archives
22 August 2022 at 13.11
Just filled in my State Pension application form.
Does anyone else feel sick filling in official forms or is it just my own phobia?
Now to go to Max Spielman to get a passport photo for my buspass application.
The question is; hair up or hair down?
FifiD  Hair up!!! Good luck xx
Drummerman  Haring down is quicker…
Fay  Crikey do you need to apply if you’ve been paying in forever and they know? Should we be wishing you “good luck” as if they might turn you down? X
Bentonbag  Oh goodness yes.
The DWP can't give you anything without the paperwork (or online).  It's partly so you can defer it to a later date if you want.   The form comes automatically three and a half months before your qualifying birthday.  Also they need to know about current marital status and his/her NI number, birthdate etc.
Fay  It makes sense now! X
Mr E Twin  Except when it doesn't! I spent weeks trying to get mine last year (pension, not bus pass).
Mrs Lasagne  Up xxxxx
Woolerwoman  Half and half!! Make sure you look awful - it's bad form to look attractive.
Cousin Daisy  Hair up. I feel the same about forms.
