Cinema Trip

It’s the little things

For most parents taking a child to the cinema is a treat and a stress free trip is not something to be celebrated or to cause emotion.
But for some of us ….

Since Playscheme ended Ferretfingers has been nagging to see Hannah Montana at Odeon Silverlink's Saturday morning children's film club, and he's been good so I took him this morning.
He was about the only boy there - it was all little girls and their mums.
He behaved really well, no screaming, not much flapping.
I was so pleased with him that I was nearly in tears driving home.

"The Posh End of Wales"

Carmarthenshire holiday cottage booked for next April!

It's amazing how quickly they get booked up.   Tregib Mill, where we stayed last time is fully booked over the Easter Holidays so I've had to look a bit further afield (Llanwrda), or go for something really expensive in town.

Now Llandeilo’s got the bijou boutique experience coverage in the Sunday supplements everywhere’s gone all posh and upmarket.   All we want is three bedrooms, a kitchen and wifi.

Bess Cavalier ...and possibly a bathroom?
Erica  We’re booked for lakes next July .  Same reason if you don’t do it early everything’s expensive and not what you want!
Supercosmic  Oh I need to read this article about how posh our area is now.  I moved here!
Bentonblog  Take your pick. We could find a simple cottage at an economical price before these got going. I blame the Hairy Bikers going to that butcher in Ffairfach. 😀

Bentonblog  A barn conversion we stayed at near Rhosmaen a couple of years ago had a digital tv in every room and remote controlled windows!  I was on pins lest the boys broke something.  And it had the roughest drive up from the road I've seen (and I've seen some rough roads!)
Supercosmic  I read all 4 - A part from the last all seem to have written from a back room, using google! Seems I have moved to the posh end of Wales 😃

Tea Cosy Chat

One of the things the ladies at LDNE’s knit and natter sessions are good at is knitting squares.

For obvious reasons last year the sessions were stopped as the charity’s building had to lockdown.  Staff were deployed in making sure our service users were safe and kept in contact with them, either by delivering meals, or helping with shopping.  And of course there were The Big Chat Zoom meetings.

Before lockdown Miss Gish had brought, or sent, in a bin-bag full of squares.

Ferretfingers’ broken ankle stopped me from going to knit and natter in February and March, but I managed to slip into the office the last day it was open, pick up and bring the bag home.

I stitched together some cot and bed blankets

White squares would get very grubby in a blanket, but they could make Winter Snowman tea cosies.  Then I discovered some red ones and turned them into Christmas Santa tea cosies.

This inspired the following Facebook conversation.

More things to do with knitted squares.
The husband suggested the Santa and snowman teacosies might make good woolly hats.
So I've used up some more of the LDNE ladies' squares making these reversible winter caps
(4 squares per cap).
Probably best for little girls or those with a small heads.
No pompom because
a) I hate pompoms and
b) they wouldn't be reversible with a pompom attached.
Bess Cavalier  Well you know 90% of men, if left alone in a room with a tea cosy, will try it on!
Bentonbag  Not just men. My mother always put the cosy on her head when she poured the tea.  No room on the table and she knew where it was.
I was always suprised when visiting other houses to see that it wasn't common practice.
Mrs Quilt  Should diminish the supply, as well. No Pom poms makes them “Beanies”

This!

Today’s blog is brought to you courtesy of something I’ve just seen on Facebook and my reaction to it.

This!

"Oh you're so strong, I don't know how you do it ..."
I have no f***ing choice.
I had no choice when Phil had cancer and was dying.
I had no choice when the boys were little, or now.
If not me who?
I can't walk away.
I can't even take a break without first organising someone to mind them.
There is almost no spontaneity
Everything has to be scheduled or planned.
I get up before them and can’t sleep until they’re in bed.
I walk a tightrope between keeping them safe
And encouraging their independence,
Constantly stretched between the need to care
And the knowledge I won’t always be here for them.
You develop muscle strength through using them
You develop other strengths by use too.
My strength isn't a virtue, it's a necessity,
And sometimes I get very very tired.

Getting Bettter

A few blogs ago (True Love) I used some posts from my 2016 Facebook archives telling how I was so poorly that I wasn’t able to do any washing.

15 August 2016 at 17:46 ·

Well I have a chest infection.

Never having had one before I didn't know what it was and am now on ammoxicilin.

Problem is, coughing has done something to my neck so I'm getting really nasty pains in my neck muscles right up to the top of my scalp.  So I'm looking at painkillers too.

Cousin Daisy Hi Ben sorry you are so poorly as am an expert on chest infections.  I know how you feel. Rotten!  If you contact my son he will help you as he has had a lot of back problems.
Sorry we won't get to see you this time as we are going to Bettyn Sutherland's funeral tomorrow and then Fifi and the granddaughter are going back on Wednesday Get well, soon. Love dx. 🎶 🎶
Bentonbag That's ok Daisy. I wouldn't want you to risk catching this b*stard - especially the granddaughter. I didn't realise Betty Sutherland had passed away. Sorry to hear it, she was such a nice little woman. Please pass on my sympathies to Bill. Having a lot of quiet time xxx

Feeling sufficiently better to consider a trip to Aldi.  We are running out of catfood, crisps and loo =]roll.

This typing lark is a lot easier without a small ginger cat attempting to chew one's knuckle.

He also believes my pink fluffy slippers are monsters trying to eat my feet and attacks them accordingly.

Mrs Lasagne I'm glad you're feeling better Ben xxx 😘
Miss Doozer If you don't make it I have spare loo roll and catfood you can have. You're not having the crisps tho.
Cousin Daisy Take it easy Ben not easy I know but chest infections leave you weak and you need to rest every chance you get 😇 🌅
Mrs Poet Good to hear, o perky one.  Spellcheck behaving today: expected pesky.
Henlady Glad you are recovering, take care of yourself and give your body time .
Later
Taking the bin out and encounter next door on their way to work.
On Sunday evening, the last time she saw me, Miss Doozer looked at my face and said “MyGod you look drawn”.

This morning she asked how I was and commented “at least you’re not having to lean on things any more.”

Finding Words and Things

We've been away for the weekend.
The following are from my Facebook archive, sadly only followers of Father Ted will appreciate the first item ...

16 August 2015 at 17:14 ·

I've just shown this to Thunderthighs who has left the office cackling with laughter.

When he was tiny and just starting to talk he would shove his sippy mug at me and shout "Drink!"

To which I would reply "nuns, arse, feck"

Until I realised it might not be the best phrase to teach a toddler ...

... by which time it was too late ...

"Where is it?"

"It's in the freezer"

"Where?"

"Oh for ****'s sake it's a 3ft by 3ft cube of space, there's nowhere for it to go, just effin look properly, which includes lifting things up and looking under them."
This is not an uncommon conversation in this household/marriage.

Bess Cavalier I just thought it was a 'male' thing
Bentonbag Roseanne Bar used to say  "Men think a womb is an object finding device" - I used to laugh .....

16 August 2019 at 23:12 ·

Our attempts to get Thunderthighs to moderate his language are having an effect.
Just heard him exclaim "Oh firetrucking Nora!"
Kentlady I think I'll try that one myself now we have a no swearing rule on the allotment!
McChurch I knew a Naval Chaplain whose expletive of choice was "Oh February".
How we laughed at the daft old sod.
Bentonbag My mother frequently exploded with "Oh For Crying Out Loud!";
I was well into my 40s before I began to suspect ...
