Tea Cosy Chat

One of the things the ladies at LDNE’s knit and natter sessions are good at is knitting squares.

For obvious reasons last year the sessions were stopped as the charity’s building had to lockdown.  Staff were deployed in making sure our service users were safe and kept in contact with them, either by delivering meals, or helping with shopping.  And of course there were The Big Chat Zoom meetings.

Before lockdown Miss Gish had brought, or sent, in a bin-bag full of squares.

Ferretfingers’ broken ankle stopped me from going to knit and natter in February and March, but I managed to slip into the office the last day it was open, pick up and bring the bag home.

I stitched together some cot and bed blankets

White squares would get very grubby in a blanket, but they could make Winter Snowman tea cosies.  Then I discovered some red ones and turned them into Christmas Santa tea cosies.

This inspired the following Facebook conversation.

More things to do with knitted squares.
The husband suggested the Santa and snowman teacosies might make good woolly hats.
So I've used up some more of the LDNE ladies' squares making these reversible winter caps
(4 squares per cap).
Probably best for little girls or those with a small heads.
No pompom because
a) I hate pompoms and
b) they wouldn't be reversible with a pompom attached.
Bess Cavalier  Well you know 90% of men, if left alone in a room with a tea cosy, will try it on!
Bentonbag  Not just men. My mother always put the cosy on her head when she poured the tea.  No room on the table and she knew where it was.
I was always suprised when visiting other houses to see that it wasn't common practice.
Mrs Quilt  Should diminish the supply, as well. No Pom poms makes them “Beanies”
