Property Premonitions

From Facebook Archives
13 July 2013 at 23:00
Despite my offer to organise them their own email accounts the boys prefer to use mine, which does prove useful in keeping up with Ferretfingers' activities.
I was just in the loo and heard Fester shout
"Ben .... Ben"
"What?!"
"I see you've subscribed to the ibid Property Auctions."
And now Thunderthighs has got his ipod up and running Apple tells me about his downloads ...
Property is Ferretfingers' current obsession which means all those awful variations of Location Location are being Tivoed.  He insists on his father taking him to pick up Pattinson's property auction catalogue and we will soon be over-run with back copies of the Journal Homemaker .....
Ozwife  As long as he doesn't start bidding for something!
Bentonbag  I wouldn't put it past him - I think they may have been talking about independent living at BH6th Form and he's taken things seriously!

These predictions and premonitions (almost) came true:-

What A Child Can Do

 From Facebook Archives

Drummerman  What evidence is there for this?
Woolerwoman  Precious little evidence, but research indicates that, where complex actions can be easily achieved, simpler actions must therefore also be possible.
There is, however, the question of the reward factor...
Bentonbag  Oh I don't know. Thunderthighs learnt to put his socks in the washer when I was away at Easter and they threatened to run out.  He has also learnt how to put them on the sock hanger to dry and to pair and put them away.
Today we had a lesson on "hanging washing on the line, and why we do it Mum/Grandma's way".  Due to benign parental neglect he can also use the toaster, microwave, kettle, grill and oven (albeit mostly for pizzas).  He sees putting the bins out as his job, and can be persuaded to mow the simple bits of the lawn.  Now if I could only persuade him to do the windows ....
Woolerwoman  Benign neglect eh??? Seems to work.
Bentonbag  Definitely with our two when it comes to food preparation.  They soon learnt to prepare their own breakfasts at weekends when we refused to get up.
The downside being the unhealthiness of what they prepare for themselves.
Woolerwoman Sounds worth it for an extra lie in.
Ms Delune Working on it, but he tried licking the bleach bottle so we have backtracked a bit!
Mrs Quilt  Steady on Ben, the windows divide the male race - some see them as a challenge, others don't notice their existence

Eavesdrop And Malaprop

From Facebook Archives
11 July 2012 at 14:45
Just overheard in the Post Office:-
Geordiegirl#1 "Can you change this to English money?"
Geordiegirl#2 "What else is she going to do?  Change it to China money?  Do they even have money in China?”
 ¥¥¥

The above reminds me of when Bigbrother’s mother-in-law passed away and her spin-dryer found its way into Mother’s kitchen.
Mum had a 1950s Hoover washing machine, with an integral mangle whose rollers were so worn that nothing less than an inch thick could be wrung out with it.
This was Christmas 1975.
In the 1970s, children, it was quite usual to have a separate washing machine and spinner (even after someone invented the twin-tub).  Spinners were cylinders a couple of feet high which would sometimes wander around the floor as they worked.
This one was so noisy Dad christened it Concorde.
Middlesister, Mum and I were sitting up late chatting (and probably eating chocolate) on one of those nights between Christmas and New Year.
“That spinner of Mrs P’s” said Middlesister “is it electric?”
“Yes” replied Mum, then a moment later, scathingly “What did you expect it to be?  Gas?!”
“No!” retorted Middlesister indignantly “I thought it might be a wrangler.”

Recycling

Yesterday Ferretfingers sorted out a load of old CD-ROM games that were so old CEx couldn't take them (the lad was very apologetic).  Anyone know anywhere that might find a use for them, possibly for an art project or bird scarers?
Miss Doozer   I'll have them, please!  I need a plan to stop Charlie Chops from leaning over the non-electric bit of the fence and stuffing his face with the long grass.
Bentonbag  Excellent, come and get them.  I may also have some bits of old clothes line you could incorporate into the plan.
Do you know anybody who could use about a hundred egg boxes?
Miss Doozer   I'll ask! Do the Rising Sun not want them?
Bentonbag  I'll drop them an email - there may be elfinsafety issues.
Mrs Banjoman  Pets Corner Jesmond used to sell eggs.  Try the visitor Centre. or Ouseburn Farm? (Excuse crap punctuation.  Hit the wrong button......again.😩)
Mrs Leftfoot  Why have you saved a hundred egg boxes?
Bentonbag  We haven't "saved" them, they just get put to one side as "being useful someday" for putting in the bottom of runner bean trenches (they're the papier mache ones) or making briquettes (?) for the fire, and before long they're taking over the garage.
Mrs Quilt  We’ve got dozens of them.  I look forward to any replies you get.
Bentonbag  Rising Sun Farm have said yes they can use them for bringing in dirty eggs for washing - but I'm not sure they realise quite how many there are - we haven't grown runner beans for a couple of years.
Bentonbag  Ouseburn Farm  has said yes too - so I shall be able to do 2 loads and not swamp them.
Mrs Quilt  I'll get himself to sort out the surplus CDs but not until after next weekend.
Bentonbag  The CDs went to Miss Doozer-next-door for horsey purposes.  It's the egg boxes that are going to the Rising Sun Farm and Ouseburn Farm.

Haircut

This was the last time Fester visited a barber.

The previous visit was for our wedding in 2012.
I believe another one is due, but am not holding my breath.
From Facebook Archives.

Fester has finally had a haircut.
He was bald on top with hair down to his shoulder-blades.
I've been threatening to plait it.
They trimmed his ear hair as well.
And he has shiny new glasses
(almost identical to the old ones but clean)
The Darwinesque beard remains.
Mrs Drummerman  Oh my. Will we recognise him?
Woolerwoman  Anything new discovered? 🤔
Mrs Lasagne  We need a picture Ben, happy haircut day x
Henlady  My husband was the same about his beard and hair, know how you feel x
