Inshore Waters Odyssey

2016

In 2013 I fulfilled a long felt want when we took the train from Newcastle to Penzance.

For years when passing through Central Station I’d seen it waiting to depart and longed to travel (almost) the length of England with it.
While we were down there we visited Lands End and the Southernmost Point of the British mainland at the end of the Lizard peninsula.

In 2016, inspired by the North Coast 500, we drove North and visited DuncansbyHead, John O Groats, Dunnet Head (the most Northerly point) and Cape Wrath.

Having been as far North and South as it’s possible to get we decided to go as far East (Lowestoft) and West (Arnamurchan Point) as well.

I appreciate the poetry of the Shipping Forecast and realised that on our travels over the years we’d been to at least half a dozen of the

Inshore Waters points.
Somehow we determined to visit them all over the following half term and Easter holidays.
It took a while, and we saw some wonderful country (and a couple of holes).
When we'd done them all I was at a loss as to where to visit next.

Making plans for our next adventure to the last two UK mainland Shipping Forecast Inshore Waters points.

Drummeman  Which two?
Bentonbag  Mulls of Galloway and Kintyre
Drummeman  Both beautiful, although the forecast says there may be mist rolling in from the sea...
Bentonbag  My desire is to be there ...

2017 Ardnamurchan Point, the only place where someone offered to take a family photo for us. They were ticking off Inshore Waters points too.
