Between 2011 and 2018 we visited all the outermost points of the British mainland and the BBC Shipping Forecast’s inshore waters’ points. Mull of Kintyre was the last to be ticked off the list.
The buildings around the lighthouse had been converted into self-catering accommodation but you’d have to be pretty hardy, or fit, to stay in them. Especially considering the four miles of single track with passing places road to the car park at the top, with locked gates to deter casual sightseers.
It took us 45 minutes to walk down to the lighthouse and over two hours to walk back up to the car park at the top, including stops for breath and a drink.
The cuckoos were cuckooing manically and at one point three zipped over the top of the cliff and zoomed back inland again.
Thunderthighs didn’t climb over that gate, he simply stepped over it
