In early January 2017 we took to take a trip to Carnforth to ride on the CumbrianCoast Line. According to Fester you get better views in winter when the leaves are off.
We
spent two nights in the Royal Station Hotel, a classic Victorian railway edifice.
Our huge family room had views of both the
bus and railway station and the post office van park, all of which delighted
Thunderthighs. The station was where
they filmed much of Brief Encounter, and the museum is definitely worth a
visit.
The Hotel was in the process of being brought into the twenty-first century but the plumbing in our en-suite looked pretty original, and behaved appropriately.
When I went to run the
boys’ bath I realised the hot water was scalding, so I turned on the cold tap
and received a blast of freezing water to the back of my head from the
over-bath shower. It somehow managed to
run both at the same time.
I didn’t dare
take a shower the next morning.

Getting
dressed in the Royal Station Hotel Carnforth yesterday morning:-
Him "What's that white stuff on your trouser leg?"
Me "Dunno. Something I've knelt in? Icing sugar perhaps?"
Him "How do you kneel in icing sugar?"
Me "Quite simple in our house"
Him, with a world weary sigh, "Get's more like Victoria Wood every
day."
