For my younger friends.

 

I never liked photographs of myself.
Now I look back on photos forty years old

and think
"You were actually quite good looking.
Why did you believe you weren't?"
Now I look at myself, 

in photos and elsewhere, 

and think
"It's all downhill from here kid
This is as good as it's going to be"
And do you know?
I'm quite happy with it.

 

Mrs Poet you'll be able to judge whether that is a poem or just rambling prose.

Honorable Lady  You are a very good-looking woman now and must have turned heads in your youth.  Shame you lacked confidence in yourself. xxx

If you thought someone was being murdered it was Ferretfingers having a megatantrum on Benton Rd because I wouldn't let him buy the Sun.

Actually heard myself saying

"You are not having that thing in my house."

Screaming abdabs all the way home (him not me)

Fay  Wondered what that racket was!

Sometimes you work really hard for things. 

Once in a while they just drop in your lap.

Just been to West Monkseaton to put up Woodlawn Xmas Pudding Fun Run posters.   

In the OneStop shop the manager asked if I worked at Woodlawn.   

Warily (hoping no pupils had done something) I explained I was part of the Parents & Friends Association.

"It's just I've got two hampers to give away to local good causes and I wanted to give one to Woodlawn."

So I phoned the school straight away and asked them to send someone down.

Then she asked 

"Do you know of any old people's homes nearby?" 

So I told her about the two I know of in West Monkseaton but added 

"I'm also a volunteer with LD:NorthEast." 

and explained what we did and how some of our older clients have no family to give them gifts. 

Ended up having my photo taken with a hamper which I've just delivered to LD:NorthEast's offices in Wallsend. 

Mrs Lasagne  Well done Ben !  So is that 1st prize raffle xx

Woolerwoman  Well done you! That's brilliant, what a nice shop too! 

Bentonbag  We spend so much time and effort asking people for stuff it's wonderful when someone offers donations.  It made my day.

This once most of the names have not been changed because:-

Due to escaping marbles I've been calling Janine Justine, and visa-versa, for the past fortnight. And yesterday called Rachel, a Woodlawn School mum, Becky.

Today at Ferretfngers' Allotment Gardening (which turned out to be Flower Arranging) class the teaching assistant Gayle (who last week I called Clare) called me Bridget.

Usually it's Barbara, though I've also been called Wendy, Glenda and, most memorably, Beryl.

I'm not counting Blodwen as it's the female equivalent of Taff.   

Are there female equivalents of Jock/Jimmy, Paddy or Geordie?  Should there be? 

And, if so, what would they be? 

Henlady  Tee hee, it comes to us all !

Parcel Posting

I hate it when the woman in the Post Office asks me what's in a parcel I'm sending. 

It's intrusive and I don't know why they do it when it's to someone in the UK.

So it was with some delight that, this morning, when she asked me the question I could look her in the eye and say, defiantly and truthfully,

"It's a solar powered elephant."

Fay  Lol the Post Office staff should have an Facebook page for the best responses to that question.
