Due to maternal neglect Thunderthighs
ran his own bath tonight (for the first time).
Bringing the washing in I
overheard:
Fester "Did you do that yourself?"
Thunderthighs "Yes."
Fester, enthusiastically,
"Wow
that's really good.
You're having a
really good week."
Thunderthighs, dubiously,
"So
far?"
Woolerwoman You could never be accused of maternal neglect. Just think what a huge step forward Thunderthighs
has made in realising it was bath time and he could do something about it! On a very much smaller scale, my daughter
made our dinner on Sunday - first time she has ever cooked for me although she
has cooked for herself and friends often.
Bentonbag I am a firm
believer in benign neglect. Works well
on cacti and some other plants and certain aspects of child rearing.

Thanks Ben,
interesting point. Now you mention it, I've
heard on wildlife programmes that most animals esp mammals and birds, do indeed
practice a programme of benign neglect so as to encourage the young to fend for
themselves.
Not easy though is it?
