Bread Of Heaven

We watch Pointless every evening after, or whilst eating, tea.

In the penultimate round, to add to the prize money, the two couples entering the final round have to identify which answers 100 people haven’t given in 100 seconds.  There are 2 pointless answers, 2 correct answers that were named and 2 incorrect answers.  A couple of nights ago (Series 25 episode 6) the bonus round was a list of breads; there are four real breads and two red herrings.

PARATHA

RHONDDA

I immediately said “Well Cwm Rhondda is the hymn tune for Bread of Heaven, or Guide Me Oh Thou Great Redeemer to be more correct.”
Fester agreed.
Thunderthighs was astonished and reluctantly impressed “How do you know that?”
“Because when I went to school we had assembly every morning with hymns, and the hymnbook had the words with the tune and its name above them.  Bread of Heaven was one of our favourites.”
(I didn’t bother going into the Welsh Rugby associations)

Preparing yesterday’s blog I found a You Tube of a Welsh male voice choir singing Breadof Heaven to link into the blog “Getting Dressed”.

It was playing the second verse when Thunderthighs stuck his head around the office door and announced
“I’m still angry that Rhondda isn’t a bread.”

Post Script Pronunciation Information

In Welsh ‘dd’ is not pronounced ‘d’ but as a soft ‘th’, and ‘rh’ indicates you should roll and aspirate the ‘r’.
So it’s not Ron-da, as in ‘Help Me Rhonda’.
It is Rhon-dda, as in ‘Where hast tha bin since Ah saw thee
