Fester
considers himself a biogeographer and spent the whole of his career in
scientific research into nutrition, entomology and land use (he refuses to use
the terms ecology and biodiversity because they’re too vague). He combined this with his own consultancy
service providing the entomological element of environmental impact surveys required
for building and transport developments, natural history organisations and
other bodies. His status as a researcher
enabled his consultancy work. Data
acquired in his consultancy work fed into his scientific research.
He wrote and co-authored many peer reviewed
papers in many learned journals, something his department at the University
were glad of because it helps persuade the powers that be to keep funding them. For many years he would tell me the running
total, which I’ve forgotten.

One thing
you can say about Fester is when he decides to sort something out he goes for
it whole hog.
Having got a whole load of books etc out of Bazoukiboy's loft and office, he's
been going through it all. I've taken 2
Fiat Multipla bootloads of paper for recycling, loads of stuff has been burnt and he's down
to boxing books and journals to keep/sell/donate. But he's realised he has stuff in our office
than "needs bringing out at looking at."
And last night in bed he looked at the bedside
shelf and said "Oh and those need going through too."
Then
"You know, my name appears in more publications than I thought."
To which his loving wife replied
"That may be, but not as many as your ego would prefer."
