Things They Don't Tell You

Although both boys are now chronologically adults I’m still accompanying them to all medical procedures.
Thunderthighs continues to mask up when in public places.
At this time hospitals were giving out nice clean masks to everyone entering the building.
Thanks to peripatetic 1960s school dentists I have an almost phobic terror of dentistry.

Yesterday I went with Thunderthighs to the Dental Hospital. They were very kind and understanding allowing me, at his request, to be with him except when he was x-rayed.
A lady dentist examined him and told us:-
1. The wisdom tooth is impacting on the molar in front of it, creating a food trap that it's nearly impossible for him to clean which is why there is decay, the molar will have to come out.
2. There are two other small areas of decay which need filling, otherwise his teeth are sound.
She then outlined two options:
a. Relaxation/Sedation using gas and air through a nose cap
b. Sedation through a needle in the back of his hand
The horrified look on Thunderthighs's face at the mention of a needle (visible through his mask) was enough to make the decision.  Besides which she weren't too keen on b. because of his weight and size.
She brought through a nose cap for him to see, feel and put over his nose and he was much happier with that idea.
The nose cap sedation can be done at somewhere like the Molineux Centre (where Ferretfingers goes to have his tartar scraped).
And, yes, they will let me in with him so I can experience the full horror of hearing his molar being extracted and teeth drilled.
They don't mention that sort of thing when they talk about the joys of motherhood!
Mr Tracks  It just goes to show what a great mother you are Ben. I hope it all goes well.
Miss Doozer  Earplugs.  Well done. You are both being incredibly brave x
Woolerwoman  That's very kind of the people at the Dental Hospital. Hope all goes well. x
