As The Year Turned

Dad died in April 2011; I used my share of his estate on a loft extension, giving Thunderthighs a much needed room of his own.
2012 was our Annus Horribilis, a year I was glad to see the back of.
2023 may have been that for some people.
If it was for you so may 2024 be a better one, and the verse is for you.

At midnight last night Thunderthighs and I went up, opened the loft landing window and watched the fireworks breaking out all over Tyneside.
Dad's legacy is a lovely new room for him and somewhere I can stand, look over the housetops to the hills, breath in the open air and look far into the sky and the stars.
Dad's legacy is also a sense of duty, honesty, family and above all cheerfulness and a sense of humour.
And if we can pass those on to our children we're doing ok.
Mrs Jeremy Well said, Ben.  Hope 2013 is a better year for you than the one we've just seen out.

Part of a poem by Thomas Hood, which I'm sharing for all of us who are glad to see the back of 2012 ...
And ye, who have met with Adversity's blast,
And been bow'd to the earth by its fury;
To whom the Twelve Months, that have recently pass'd,
Were as harsh as a prejudiced jury,—
Still, fill to the Future! And join in our chime,
The regrets of remembrance to cozen,
And having obtained a New Trial of Time,
Shout in hopes of a kindlier dozen!
