Ferretfingers Breaks Through

On Tuesday afternoons we do wood carving at Ouseburn Farm.
Ferretfingers favourite occupation is stripping logs of their bark; until a few weeks ago it was all he would do.
Then The Woodman brought in a huge log and plonked it on the saw-horse with
“Let’s see how he gets on with this.”
After stripping the bark Ferretfingers started digging out a knot-hole where the wood was fairly soft.
Then he started taking out the heartwood at the thick end.
He was quite pleased with himself when he created a tunnel through to the knot hole and spent the next couple of sessions making the void even bigger.
Eventually the void was so deep the chisels were too short for him to go in any further, so he had to open it out even more.
A couple of weeks ago he was persuaded to make a start hollowing out the other end.
Half way through this Tuesday's session I heard a delighted “Mum!  I’ve found a hole.”
There was much cheering at this Channel Tunnel moment.
He carried on hollowing out.
I’m not sure what it will be when he’s finished.

  2. That is a brilliant suggestion! How many sweetcorn plants would fit in it, 3 maybe 4. Be brilliant just outside your back gate! Xxx
