In order to persuade pre-snip kitten Teddy to stay in the living room overnight I would ‘give him supper’ immediately before going up to bed and shutting him in (with a litter tray). Four years on he still gets quite miffed if I go up without putting something down and throws a tantrum on the stairs and landing.

Teddy is having an interesting effect on David.
First there was the near tears when "Teddy is missing!"
Then the joyous shouts of "Teddy's in the garden" and galumphing out to order him in when he came home.
He's learning to shut the living room door to stop the cat getting out and confronting Felix.
Last night going out of the living room he turned, pointed at him and commanded "Teddy! Stay!" and Teddy, somewhat bemused, did in fact stay.
And this evening he went into the kitchen and came back with a sachet of cat-food which he would have put in the bowl if Teddy hadn't been so eager to get at it.
