Sound Medical Advice

As mentioned in previous blogs, 2012 was our annus horribilis with 3 close (including one sudden) family deaths, sorting out Fester’s old family home (and bringing a lot of the contents back here), the disruption of a loft extension, a poorly cat and more than one health scare.

To GP this morning as everything that's gone on this year + menopause has made me feel crap and shortened my fuse from "Light blue touch paper and retire" to "Light blue touch paper and DUCK!!!"
Amongst other useful things (like organising blood tests) she suggests I need to get out and do things just for me that are "utterly frivolous and don't involve you in organising anything."
Any suggestions?
Preferably legal, moral and non-fattening
Or at least 2 out of 3

Boatman Take up the melodeon or some kind of boating, or both. An instrument's good because you can almost always enjoy a five-minute holiday, and boating's particularly good because there are so many good dreams to dream...
Bentonbag Sadly Boatman I got seasick on the Norfolk Broads
Boatman Then there's only one option...
Kentishlady I have a melodeon gathering dust, which you are welcome to use. :)
FifiD Have a love affair!!!!
Sheamus Murphy Yes, let's have a love affair!!
Bentonbag Lol Sheamus Murphy - will you ever learn!?!x

Two friends stand out in attempting to assist my following the medical advice.

Pearl pointed me towards The Pitcher & Piano’s webpage, where one could register for monthly offers.  So every month or so (until this present unpleasantness) I’ve walked down to the Quayside to join with other ladies who lunch, sometimes with cocktails.  Thus getting my exercise, socialising and frivolity all in one go.

Mrs Leftfoot simply insisted we do something every month.

This has included: quiz nights, cinema trips (7 Billboards Outside Ebbing, Dunkirk and Darkest Hour), musical events at the Lit & Phil and Mining Institute, “just going out for a blooming walk” and, this Summer, socially distanced coffee in the back-garden or either end of a park bench.
If we miss a month we try to have two or three in the next month to catch up.
Leading to interesting conversations like “Is this April or May?  I think we’ve done March, so perhaps this is May.
Sadly we are currently at least seven months behind in our outings.

Here we are, thankfully almost unrecognisable, at our December 2016 outing, a music and comedy evening in the Cumberland Arms.
